As we enter the next phase of the process to defend against the planned power plant, our strategy is more focused. Based on successful experiences in locations such as Abbotsford, B.C. and the Greenpoint/Williamsburg community in New York City, http://stopthepowerplant.org/index.php we need to move from a volunteer based defence, to hire experts in specific areas to make our case.
We will still need a large number of volunteers to help us. One of the key areas over the next few weeks is to raise the funds necessary to hire the experts we need. As a rule of thumb, we are suggesting between 5% and 10% of your annual Oakville taxes. If you pay $6,000 in taxes, a $600 donation works out to about 2 hours of work for the type of specialists that we need. A larger contribution would be appreciated if possible, however, we completely understand if you cannot in these difficult times. We will provide materials that you can use.
